The Crippled Lamb

During the last week of school, we attempted to film 'The Crippled Lamb'.  Many kids were home sick and we had to combine the two classes to make the video.  Some students had to fill in for others who were not at school.  I wish we had more time to make this video but time was not on our hands! Enjoy and Merry Christmas! (p.s. never let your start wear green while green screening...too rushed to notice until editing!)

Merry Christmas!

Wishing everyone a healthy and happy Christmas!

We had to say goodbye to our elves...they are heading back to the North Pole:) Somehow they were able to bring snow into the classrooms but it did NOT melt! Elf Snow?

Book Sharing Party and Elves!

Yesterday, we had our second annual book sharing party in our classrooms.  Each student had to choose one of their favourite Christmas books and share it with a friend in the class.  Not only did they have to read their book, they had to use a special 'Christmas' version of a Shape Go Map to retell their story.  Take a look at some of the pictures of this fun block!

Friends!

Sorting with Attributes and Reindeer Games

We continued to make up reindeer games in gym today.  See if you can guess the names of our games!

Christmas Craft Day

Displaying PicCollage

Today was Christmas Craft Day! We made two reindeer crafts and a button Christmas tree craft. We also learned how to draw an angel and an elf on the shelf!

Our class elf met up with Ms. Ng's class elf-Twinkle...take a look at what they did today (they also brought us candy canes)!

Christmas Hampers

Today, our food hampers were wrapped up and are ready to be picked up for delivery before Christmas.  The teachers also brought gifts for needy children to go with the food.  Thank you to everyone who contributed to this wonderful cause.

"Anyone who has two shirts should share with the one who has none, and anyone who has food should do the same." Luke 3:11

We continue to practice our play 'The Crippled Lamb' and watched these videos for inspiration.

Elfing Around (and more sorting)

More elf shenanigans can be found here and here or even here!

Sorting, White Elephant Sale and Wind!

Today, we worked on sorting ourselves.  Take a look at our photos and see if you can figure out the sorting rules!

Don't forget to bring in money for the White Elephant Sale tomorrow.  Remember to bring in a bag to carry home your goodies!

We talked about wind and how it is used for electricity,  Archer said that wind is a better source of energy than coal and natural gas because it is always there! We watched a short video about wind turbines too.

Hour of Code, Badly Drawn Dog and Elvis is Here!

Today we teamed up with the grade fours for Hour of Code.  We learned how to create simple games and stories using the language of code.  The classes were very engaged and were eager to use these 21st century skills in the classroom.  Elvis, our class elf, finally showed up today! (He was hiding in our food hamper).  He left us a note and asked us to perform acts of kindness.  Last week, we listened to the story 'Badly Drawn Dog' and created our own versions of badly drawn dogs!  Take a look at the video below.  In math, we are learning about sorting objects by two attributes.

Spirit Day

Don't forget to wear your 'Christmas' gear tomorrow!  You can wear your Santa hats or elf boots...you choose!  All monies raised will go towards the Christmas hampers.

Advent Week 2, 'O Little Town of Bethlehem' and White Elephant Sale

We will be celebrating the second week of Advent tomorrow in the gym.  Our elf made a surprise visit to our smartboard. The class did a survey to choose the name of our new elf.  More people chose the name Elvis than the other names. On Thursday and Friday, we worked on our Bethlehem art after wondering what Bethlehem might look like when Mary and Joseph rode into town.  The second video is about the White Elephant sale on Friday.  Don't forget to bring in any items you would like to donate for this event!

Math Inquiry-Birthday Money and...

Yesterday, we worked on a math inquiry involving birthday money.  We had a really hard time figuring out this problem.  Most groups thought you just had to add $2 each year but the key word was double.  Take a look at some group work that was close (sorry they are upside down...did not edit my photos!).

Look what I found on my computer this afternoon...they are back!  Any ideas for names?

Water...Air

We have just finished our inquiry into water and now we begin...air!  We brainstormed what we have learned about water so far.  We posted them on padlet.  If you can think of anything else, you can post it too!

Caring Angel, Tellegami and Patterning

Today, we are bringing home our Caring Angel and an information sheet explaining what it is all about.  If the info sheet did not make it home, you can find it here too!

This week, during our Literacy Stations, we are learning about a new app Tellegami.  Nikil was finished early at the writing station so I had him try out the app...great job, Nikil! Averie was at the Tellegami station and made a great example of how to use a gami.  She spoke clearly, slowly and with expression. Well done!

We continue to work on patterning.  Here is a site to practice where you can practice repeating patterns, growing patterns and describing patterns. Yesterday, students were given a problem where they had to create a repeating pattern using the following beads...3 blue, 6 red and 6 green.

Jake and Liam received the Justice award for November.  Way to go!
