Perimeter/Regrouping/Matter

Today we watched a short video about perimeter (standard unit) and a music video.  We are getting good at finding the perimeter of shapes!  We also had an art lesson on texture and made multi-media snowmen (pictures to follow later). Don't forget that homework is due FRIDAY!

Introduction to perimeter:

This morning, we started off our day with a Math Inquiry.  With a partner we had to collaborate and figure out the answer to this question.  Pictures to follow tomorrow!

Perimeter with Non-Standard Units and Reconciliation

We have been learning about perimeter.  Today, we went on a perimeter hunt in the classroom to find things to measure.  We used all kinds of things like clips, tiles and string.  Take a look at our flipagram:)

Don't forget that students will be making their First Reconciliation on Tuesday at 7pm in the gym!

Addition with Regrouping and the Act of Contrition

We continue to work on our addition with regrouping.  Sometimes a song helps us remember how to add 2-digit numbers.  Here are a couple of good ones!(pardon the singing)

In preparation for our First Reconciliation, we are learning the Act of Contrition.  If you would like practice it, here is a copy!

We also conducted a survey in our class.  First we had to come up with a good question and keep track of the responses.  Then we had to use the success criteria anchor chart to create a graph showing the results of our survey.

Water Conservation Gamis

In December, when students were at the writing station, they had to think of some ideas of how to save water.  After, they practiced using the Tellegami app at the technology station.  Finally, they had to create their gami and record their 'Ways to Save Water' ideas.  I finally got around to uploading them to a padlet. Take a look and a listen at our gamis below and please leave a comment!

Measurement and Retells

Today, I am sending home math duotangs for you to check out.  Please sign and return this Wednesday (do not remove any of the sheets please).
We have begun a new math unit on Measurement...specifically linear measurement.  Students worked with a partner to estimate and measure using non-standard tools like cubes, popsicle sticks and paper clips.  We then got together to discuss what we noticed and what we must remember to do when we are measuring objects.

We watched the book 'Hooway for Wodney Wat' and did an oral retell too!

At the end of the day, we read 'Owen' and did a written retell with a partner...phew! We worked really hard for a Monday!

Data Management

Displaying photo.JPG

In math, we have been looking at data (information) and ways in which we can show data.  After reading the book, Tally O'Malley, we learned that using tally marks is the best way to keep track of data.  We created an anchor chart of ways we can show our data!

Yesterday, the homework folders were sent home.  They are due back to school on January 30th.
