Global Read Aloud, Literacy Stations and a Music Video Too

For the next few weeks, our classes will be participating in the Global Read Aloud. Here is a blurb from their website:

The project was created in 2010 with a simple goal in mind; one book to connect the world. Now with five years under our belt and more than 500,000 connections made in 60 different countries, we realize we are on to something larger than us so we look forward to continuing the global connections.
This year we will be focusing on Amy Krouse Rosenthal's picture books.  The first book we will be exploring is called 'Chopsticks'.
We will be connecting with our Primary Blogging Community as well as Mrs. Denyer's Grade Two class at St. Gregory.  Hopefully, our classes will get to share, collaborate and learn from each other.
We will also begin our Literacy Stations this week.  Each day, students will focus on one area of the language curriculum (ex. guided reading, reading response and writing).  They will also be exploring a tech tool to assist them in sharing what they know:)
On Friday, all the grade two classes gathered to sing and meet new friends.  Take a look at our music video!

Global Read Aloud and October Newsletter

This week, I will be sending home the October Newsletter.  If you cannot find it, check the sidebar of the blog (Newsletters) and you will find a copy there:) The Global Read Aloud begins today!  We have just begun to read the book (we started a little early), 'The Miraculous Journey of Edward Tulane'. Why the Global Read Aloud?

GRA Badge"Global collaboration is necessary to show students that they are part of something bigger than them.  That the world needs to be protected and that we need to care for all people.  You can show them pictures of kids in other countries but why not have them speak to each other?  Then the caring can begin."
