Take a look at what happens to oil when you add water!  What do you notice?

On Friday, we investigated solids that dissolve in water.  Some solids seem to 'disappear' (sugar) but are still there if you tasted them (we didn't taste them!).  Other solids, like the Froot Loops, did not dissolve and the flour appeared to mix with the water.  When I came back to school on Monday, look what happened to the flour.  What do you notice?

Dissolve, Absorb and Repel

Today we investigated which solids dissolve (looks like it disappears) in water.  We discovered that sugar dissolves easily and Froot Loops did not dissolve.  Flour looked like it dissolved but the water turned cloudy.  We also did an experiment to see which solids absorb (soak up) water and which solids repel (stays on top).  Check out the results of our experiment on our padlet!
