Today we talked about Mary and the Angel Gabriel telling her she would have a child named Jesus. In writing, we continue to work on Procedural Writing. After watching a video about feeding chickadees, we wrote a piece of writing about 'How To Feed a Chickadee'.
Here is the video that prompted the writing!
Using our Procedural Writing anchor chart, the classes wrote a 'how to' piece about the video. We did a pretty good job! (Thanks Dawid for 'bumping up' our sentence).
We also listened to some great Water Cycle songs. Take a look (and listen)! Perhaps, our class will make their own music video:)
On Wednesday, we tried the Marshmallow Spaghetti Challenge again! We learned a lot about building structures and character!

It's Not Fair! The Water Cycle and Reminders
We got a tweet back from Amy Krouse Rosenthal (our author study for the Global Read Aloud). Pretty cool to have a famous author write back to us!
In Science, we had just enough time to do a quick water cycle experiment and record our observations. First, we boiled water (like the sun heating up a lake) and then put ice cubes in a tuna can. The water vapour rose and condensation formed on the bottom of the can. Can you guess what started to happen to the water droplets? You are correct...it started to rain! Some unlucky students got a little wet! Thanks Rubi for the great photos. Clark also went outside to take a photo of a big puddle in the school yard. I wonder what will happen to it?
Reminders:
Library books are due next Wednesday
Canned food drive ends next Friday (let's beat last years total of 154 cans)
@mrsaddison2 I think it is fair, especially because the dad will probably give his kid a lot of bites anyways. :)

Today, we created our own "It's Not Fair!" pages for a book we are creating. It should be ready by next week...just in time for Hallowe'en.In Science, we had just enough time to do a quick water cycle experiment and record our observations. First, we boiled water (like the sun heating up a lake) and then put ice cubes in a tuna can. The water vapour rose and condensation formed on the bottom of the can. Water Cycle and more Patterns!
Do you see what I see?
Today, we had to create a repeating pattern where two attributes change (like colour/size/shape/direction/thickness). We created the success criteria and students got to choose how to show their learning.
Some chose to make a piccollage, others chose the Show Me app and some drew their pattern on paper. Here is Sarah's Show Me about her pattern:

Water Cycle, Rounding Numbers and Canned Food Drive
We are trying to reach 3000 canned goods by October 27th. Archer figured the school needs to raise 350 more cans to reach this goal. We already have 2650 cans filling the learning commons! Way to go, St. Cecilia!
We also learned about rounding numbers to the nearest ten. We played a game to help us understand the concept. Students were given numbers and had to decide if they were going to round down or round up to the nearest ten.

Water Cycle and Fall Leaves
Today, we watched a short video on the water cycle. Don't forget to practice the song from yesterday for our music video! Great new too...St. Cecilia has brought in over 2000 canned goods for the Barrhaven Food Cupboard. We are in 4th place for duct taping but there are a few more days before the winners are announced. Keep bringing them in if you 'can'!
We just finished painting our secondary colour trees (will post pictures soon!) and during shared reading we learned a poem about fall leaves. Listen to us choral read the poem here. We mixed the primary colours to make our secondary colours. Our fall trees were made using orange, green and purple (my favourite colour). They look beautiful and we have received many compliments.

Water Cycle Video
We are learning about the water cycle. Today, we listened to a song about the cycle and are going to make our own music video. Here is the song so you can practice the lyrics!
