Merry Christmas and the Reason for the Season!

I finally finished the last 4 Christmas Story videos!  Pay close attention to Maddy in Christmas Story 6.  She was filling in for another student and improvised her parts...amazing job!
I was having 'technical difficulties' but persevered and...VOILA!  Have a very merry Christmas everyone and enjoy the break:)

Inuit Games, Christmas Retells and the Christmas Story

Merry Christmas and Happy New Year!  I am so blessed to have a wonderful and enthusiastic group of kiddos!  Thank you and see you n 2016.  Keep checking the blog for updates over the holidays if you are not leaving town:)

This morning we had a wonderful presentation by Dion on Inuit games during our gym period.  We learned a great deal about Inuit culture and showed a lot of GRIT while trying out these sometimes difficult games.  Way to go, Grade 2!

Yesterday we read the story "Mortimer's Christmas Manger" and completed a Shape Go Map together.  The students are getting quite good at completing retells.  In the new year, students will be asked to complete them independently.  Here is the retell of the story:

This week we began filming our Christmas Stories in our groups. Students were responsible for writing and directing their own versions of the Christmas Story.

The Christmas Story and Bethlehem Art

We have been learning a lot about the Christmas story over the past few weeks.  We have listened to stories and watched videos about the birth of Jesus.  On Friday, we got into groups to create our own versions of the story.  Some groups wrote scripts and others decided to bring in props from home. Next week we will continue to practice and present to the class. Here are a few of the videos we watched to inspire our own plays!

In art, we created scenes of Bethlehem using oil pastels and sharpie pens.  We then wrote our wonderings about Bethlehem and the journey Mary and Joseph took to get there, Using green screen, we recorded ourselves over our artwork.  Take a look!

Christmas Hampers

Today, our food hampers were wrapped up and are ready to be picked up for delivery before Christmas.  The teachers also brought gifts for needy children to go with the food.  Thank you to everyone who contributed to this wonderful cause.

"Anyone who has two shirts should share with the one who has none, and anyone who has food should do the same." Luke 3:11

We continue to practice our play 'The Crippled Lamb' and watched these videos for inspiration.
