Patterning
Our next unit in Math is patterning. We will be focusing on the following:
1) Attributes: colour, size, shape, position (direction), texture and number
You need to write down what is changing. Don't forget to only write the core which is the part that repeats.
Example: A, B, c, A, B, c
size: capital, capital, lower case or large, large, small
shape: A, B, c
2) Pattern Rules: describe how a pattern starts and how much it is increasing or decreasing by as the pattern continues.
4,8, 12,16,20, ____, ____, ____, _____
When you write the rule, you need to use this sentence:
Start at 4. Add 4 each time.
3) Use geometric patterns to write a pattern rule.
Start with 3. Add 2 each time.
4) Find patterns on calendars. Example: Sarah has soccer practice every Monday and Wednesday and I see that she has a game every Saturday and Sunday.
